Meridian Township Looking For Road Renewal
The talk about how milage wherewithal has been spent has created a heated debate throughout the city of Lansing for the past few weeks.
But Lansing is not alone.
Meridian township has seen some concerns over how net from a road milage is being spent.
With more than 72 miles of pathway throughout meridian township, Julie Brixie,the township treasurer says pathways and roads have always been a top rank and for several years have been paid for with a pathway milage.
"The intent of the pathway milage is to outfit bike paths, bike lanes and sidewalks along the streets for non-motorists travels," Brixie said.
However, the treasurer says the township received some repercussion from residents who claim they heard the township panel would be spending money for repairs along Haslet road this year and not resurfacing pathways, but Brixie say that's not the took place.
"It's for work on the drainage next to Haslet road, where the pathway will be placed on top of it," Brixie said.
The treasurer says its a controversy about how the milage proposal is written.
Which is why on August, the township will be less specific when it comes to the wording about how money for a avenue milage will be used.
Meridian Township says renewing the milage in August would brook them to work on fixing local roads, but also help the county roads that they would vocation on as well such as Haslet road.
"We felt that the most prudent thing to do for the residents of meridian township would be to forget the milage in a more broad category so if something were to happen with the state funding of elementary roads, we would be able to use some money for that," Brixie said.
Money that Brixie says is more grave now then ever, with a 300% increase in the cost to repair roads and she hopes voters will produce every penny counts when it comes to maintaining the township they call home.
